The Grass on Trafalgar Square
Do you know that not so long ago Trafalgar Square was covered with grass?
Trafalgar Square was temporarily grassed over in May 2007. In order to promote green spaces and villages in London, 2,000 square metres (21,528 square feet) of grass were laid out for two days on Trafalgar Square, creating a green centre in the middle of London`s grey concrete landscape.
Visitors could soak up the sunshine in specially laid-out deckchairs or enjoy a picnic.
The decision to source organic grass and re-use it after the event limited any negative comment.
"THIS PROVES THAT AN EXPERIENTIAL EVENT CAN REALLY CREATE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY, EVEN IN A CITY AS BIG AS LONDON."
